The Town of Greybull in Big Horn County hosted a Rural Resource Team visit September 17-19, 2013. The community sponsors of this event were the Greybull Area Chamber of Commerce and the Greybull Economic Development Board.
The Resource Team was invited into our community to assist us by:
1) developing an objective community assessment based on community input; 2) holding Listening Sessions for the community-at-large ; 3) facilitating a Resource Team Town Meeting; 4) delivering a Resource Team Report to the community, complete with Resource Team Members’ personal recommendations; and 5) providing Post-Resource Team support and follow-up.
The Resource Team consists of a panel of knowledgeable individuals from outside the community who are actively involved in some area of rural community development. They volunteer their time and services as a Resource Team Member.
The community was invited to attend Listening Sessions in order to answer the three questions below. On the final day, the Resource Team facilitated a Town Meeting where 1)
the Listening Session responses were read; 2) Major themes in the
community were provided; and 3) The Resource Team Members gave the
community a preview of their recommendations to be included in the
Resource Team Report.
While the final report is pending, the images below reflect the initial responses to the three questions which were answered by members of the community at the Listening Sessions or via paper or online surveys.
1)What are the major problems and challenges in your community?
2)What are the major strengths and assets in your community?
3)What projects would you like to see accomplished in your community in the next two, five, 10, and 20 years?
Thank you to Greybull High School, The Shack, and Ron's Food Farm for the street-side promotion of the 2013 Community Assessment!
The assessment completed in September, 2002 led to completion of the
following projects: Walk/bike path, xeriscaping at the Greybull Library,
water distribution projects, park improvements including the
establishment of a skate park, decorative street lighting, pro-business
(not just tourism) Chamber of Commerce, designation of an Industrial
area with potential tenants identified, enhancement of ball fields, an
active Planning and Zoning Committee, and establishment of the Greybull
Community Development Plan.
